Band: Ken Scoggins & Miller’s Creek
Location: Rock Hill, South Carolina
Ken Scoggins & Miller’s Creek is a traditional, all acoustic Bluegrass band formed in 1999 following a yearly jam session at the city park in Newport, Tennessee. Since that time Miller’s Creek has been performing for receptive crowds at many large Bluegrass venues.
The band has logged nearly 10,000 miles per month during its’ busiest seasons and has produced five recording projects. The band receives a significant amount of both radio and television programming each year. Current and former members have worked with the Larry Stephenson, Marty Raybon, and Raymond Fairchild Bands.
Ken Scoggins is a veteran Bluegrass singer who’s singing and picking styles are reminiscent of first generation Bluegrass players. Ken is a BMI affiliated songwriter and performs and records with his ’54 Martin D-28, ’53 Martin D-18, and Profitt guitars. The ’54 was purchased several years ago from John R. Bowman. John played the instrument while a member of Allison Krauss And Union Station.
Doug Rankin resides in beautiful Mountain. Rest, South Carolina and joins Ken on duet and trio harmonies. Though a multi-instrumentalist, Doug covers the mandolin duties and writes many of the band’s original tunes. Doug is a BMI affiliated songwriter and co-owner with Ken in Verner Mill Publishing. Over the years, Doug has acquired quite a collection of instruments; however, his primary player is a newly acquired Stiver.
Gentleman Bill Scoggins, Ken’s brother, rejoins the band during the ’08 season on bass fiddle and vocals. Bill has most recently lived in Maggie Valley, North Carolina while working and recording with the legendary Raymond Fairchild, King of the Smokey Mountain Banjo Pickers. Bill has now returned to his Rock Hill home and is the proud owner of a recently purchased ’41 Kay.
